Rebaters feature a guide pin or bearing beneath the body, which rides along the edge of the material to keep the route bit cutting at a consistent diameter. Changing the diameter of the guide bearing can alter the diameter of the cut. For example, a bearing with a large diameter creates a narrower rebate while a smaller bearing creates wider rebates since you can cut further into the material.
